The Parish Council

What does Colaton Raleigh Parish Council do?

The Council represents the community in matters affecting the parish.

This includes:

  • Liaising with East Devon District Council and Devon County Council on various matters (eg. Footpaths, Highways, Flooding)
  • Commenting on planning applications
  • Establishing an Emergency Action Plan
  • Responding to consultations
  • Speedwatch

The Council maintains and improves parish owned property. This includes:

  • Contracting the grass cutting in the village playpark
  • Looking after benches, the bus shelter, noticeboards, and the defibrillator
  • Carrying out enhancement projects. In recent years this has included renovating the bus shelter, installing new benches and a dog waste bin, and replacing equipment in the playpark

What does the Council not do?

Parish Council powers are limited and many of the issues that affect the parish do not come under our remit. However, if you come to us with any matter that is not our direct responsibility, we will do out best to help you and point you in the direction of the right local authority.

The Council does not:

  • Make decisions on planning applications. Contact East Devon District Council on 01404 515616
  • Potholes and Highways. Contact Devon County Council on 0345 155 1004
  • Waste collection. Contact Devon County Council on 0345 155 1010

How do I raise an issue with the Parish Council?

Councillors are around the village and happy to listen to anyone who wishes to raise a point. Formal contact can be made by contacting the Clerk.
